India: "Rose cultivation has export potential"

Hundreds of varieties of roses were on display at the 37th annual rose show that was inaugurated by C Parthasarathi, Principal Secretary (Agriculture, Horticulture and Cooperation) at the Institute of Engineers in Hyderabad on Saturday.

He mentioned that Bengaluru was the number one city in cultivation of roses and presently, Pune is number one in exporting roses to other States and countries. Hyderabad is also coming up well in rose flower promotion, Parthasarathi added.

Efforts should be made to promote cultivation of roses around Hyderabad and other suitable areas as roses have aesthetic and commercial importance along with export potential. The latest western roses including cut-flower roses or HT roses in poly houses are well represented in several States.
