Turkey: Government wipes out 90% of the massive custom's fines incurred by cut flower exporters

Many cut flower export companies are facing serious penalties due to coding mistakes in export documents. The customs department have investigated all the export documents submitted by these companies in the last 3 years and looked through 12 million files. Due to coding mistakes in almost every single document, every exporter is fined 20 euros per document. As exporters have submitted thousands of these documents in the last 3 years, a 20 euro fine per document totaled to a significant amount for many big exporters.

Sectoral organizations have been working with government officials to solve this problem and to save exporters from paying these sizable penalties and as a result government officials have decided to let exporters pay only 10 % of the fines they have accrued so far for coding mistakes. Many exporters are delighted with this news and already started paying their fines.
