Veiling Rhein-Maas:

"Satisfying price level for exclusive Kenyan roses in Europe"

The hot weather in Kenya combined with the delay of the `long rains´ and continuing temperatures above average in Ethiopia have increased the production and supply amounts of roses in a significant manner. This, linked with an annually increasing production area, mainly in Kenya, has caused extremely high amounts of roses in foremost the European markets.

Satisfying price level
Nevertheless, especially exclusive products of superior quality still reached satisfying prices under the described circumstances. Although the average price level around Mother’s Day was slightly lower than in 2018, sales prices at Veiling Rhein-Maas started to increase earlier in the Mother’s Day week and continued to remain on a high level for longer than last year. The supply of local products will come into full swing over the next few weeks and the supply amounts of imported products are expected to decrease rapidly soon.

Veiling Rhein-Maas at IFTEX 2019
In June, a delegation of Veiling Rhein-Maas has also visited the IFTEX in Nairobi (Kenya) and several rose farms in the Nakuru region and has held talks with many African suppliers. Major topics have been the above-mentioned conditions but also other topics including increasing labor costs and freight rates as well as problems with the availability of fertilizers. As already experienced in previous years, the IFTEX is one of the most important meeting points for the Green Industry in Africa and Veiling Rhein-Maas is planning to remain present.
