Plastic fantastic?

Sustainable packaging is a hot topic in horticulture right now. That was shown on Tuesday 29 October by the interest in the packaging event at World Horti Center.

WHC organised a trade fair and seminar in collaboration with participants. The whole day focused on the theme of ‘Plastic Fantastic? Working with sustainable packaging’.

There was interest in the topic from all disciplines within the sector - not just growers looking for sustainable material, but also retailers interested in product innovations in the field of packaging. A total of over 350 visitors attended the event.

20 different stands and the seminar provided visitors with answers to questions such as what packaging has the least impact on the environment, how we can use packaging in a circular system, and what differences there are between the demands from the customer and from the consumer. Various innovations in the field of packaging were also on show, from paper to cardboard, plastic and pulp. The importance of good design and the packaging materials that we will use in the future were also considered. The conclusion of the conference was that the sector could collaborate even more in order to find a sustainable and circular solution for the future.
