Spend the day indulging your love of perennials by attending Walters Gardens' annual Perennial Expo this June. Each year they pick one day to go big with speakers, tours, and new plant displays with education about the product, Walters Gardens, and perennials in general.
Highlights for the day include keynote speaker Kelly D. Norris, the Director of Horticulture and Education at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. At the Botanical Garden, Kelly is responsible for leading and directing a team of horticulturists and educators in all aspects of design, curation, programming, and garden management, after serving as the principal horticulture consultant to the $18 million renovation project completed in 2014.
Visitors for the Expo will want to stay to the end. The in-house plant expert, Hans Hansen, will close the day with an overview of his hybridizing program and some of his favorite new plants to come out of it. For more than a decade Hans has shepherded new plant development at Walters Gardens, contributing over 300 introductions out of 100 different genera.
This is a free event. Visitors need only bring themselves and an eagerness to learn more about Walters Gardens and the many perennial plants they carry.
