Pennsylvania Horticultural Society filled two roles on its executive team with Nancy Boutté Finn stepping into the role of Chief Development Officer, and Erin Dunkel taking over as Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

Both positions are critical to leading the organization towards its 200th anniversary in 2027 and expanding impact in four specific areas in the Philadelphia region: increasing access to healthy food; creating better living environments; building deeper social connections; and growing economic opportunity.

Nancy Boutté Finn, PHS Chief Development Officer
In November of 2019, Nancy Boutté Finn stepped into the role as PHS’s Chief Development Officer, a position that will report directly to PHS President Matt Rade.

Finn is a strategic leader charged with designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to elevate PHS into the upper echelon of nationally recognized nonprofits. Her oversight includes creating, diversifying, and increasing revenue in the areas of Membership, Annual Funds, Major Gifts, Foundation Grants, and Planned Giving – in addition to oversight of PHS Informational Services and The Flower Show Preview Party.

Finn is also charged with securing principal, major, and foundational grants, as well as building and maintaining relationships with relevant PHS contributors. This position will support PHS stakeholders including the Board of Directors, the Development Committee, leadership team, staff, and community partners to achieve strategic and Dunkel will execute PHS’s marketing strategy and will help engage PHS’s constituencies, drive revenue and improve engagement with members, donors, sponsors, and partner organizations. She will integrate PHS’s marketing and program initiative goals.

Splitting her eight years in California’s Bay Area between the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and 2 ½ years as the Director of Leadership Annual Giving at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Finn arrives at PHS with over a decade of nonprofit experience in the arts.

“Nancy’s track record of success at leading nonprofits in Philadelphia and in California made her the perfect candidate for PHS,” said President Matt Rader. “Nancy is going to be one of the keys in helping us increase our impact by expanding our support base regionally and beyond to advance Vision 2027.”

Finn received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from Western Washington University and her M.B.A. in Marketing from the Edward S. Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University.

Erin Dunkel, Vice President of Marketing & Communications
In October 2019, Erin Dunkel was named Vice President of Marketing &
Communications at PHS, leading the marketing and communications team to grow the PHS brand, engage members, and promote PHS’s full portfolio of programs and offerings.

Dunkel will execute PHS’s marketing strategy and will help engage PHS’s constituencies, drive revenue and improve engagement with members, donors, sponsors, and partner organizations. She will integrate PHS’s marketing and communications activities into one platform that will engage everyone in gardening for the greater good

Dunkel received her B.A. from The College of William and Mary, and her M.S. in Marketing from Johns Hopkins University. She has an extensive track record of generating demand and building brands with leadership roles in technology, healthcare, and nonprofits. She was also a solopreneur marketing consultant and is an author of a marketing blog and how-to articles on strategic marketing.

“One of the things that stood out about Erin was her leadership experience in multiple industries, including nonprofits. Her ability to plan and execute strategy, and experience in leading communications teams is what elevated her above other candidates,” said PHS Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Stephano. “Erin is going to be a key contributor to help PHS achieve a more national, and international, recognized brand.” This position will report directly to Lisa Stephano, Chief Marketing Officer
