Ornamental Plants and Cut Flowers Exporters Association Vice-Chairman Harun Yeter spoke about the activity in domestic and international markets due to Valentine’s Day.
Harun Yeter: “Antalya is responsible for 95% of Turkey’s cut flower production. The production area for cut flowers is around 600 hectares and about 30,000 earn their living through growing cut flowers. We have exported our flowers to 27 countries. We also have sold about 3 million stems in the domestic market in the 2 weeks before Valentine’s Day.
During Valentine’s Day, the consumers preferred the color red in flowers. We have exported carnations, ranunculus, dianthus barbatus, gerbera, and solidago. Despite our growers losing their position in the Russian market, the industry has grown by 15%.”
Florists noted that the stem price for red roses varied between 1.6 USD and 4 USD depending on the quality as the prices have doubled due to high demand. Mixed bouquet prices started from 15 USD and went up as high as 150 USD.
