Turkish Cut Flowers Exporters Association Chairman Ismail Yilmaz claims that red carnations are becoming for lovers in the domestic market. Ismail Yilmaz: “The interest in red roses has started to decrease in these days and that is very good news since we were forced to import most of these roses in order to fulfill the domestic demand. Now more and more lovers start to prefer red carnations which is great news for all the carnations in Turkey, most of which are located in the city of Antalya. The carnations which were being exported abroad for years, are now being sold in the domestic market at significant and increasing volumes. Our growers have also earned approximately 5 million USD with the export of nearly 55 million stems of carnations for Valentine’s Day”
According to the last year’s data, Turkish wholesalers had imported 800,000 USD worth of roses just in the month of February in 2019. Roughly 3.5 million stems of roses were sold in Turkey during the same month.
