International Nurses Day celebrated with flowers

Yesterday was International Nurses Day. To show gratitude to nurses around the world, flowers were donated in various ways.

Ecuador
In Ecuador, Taylor Skye owns a business in preserved and dried flowers. Together with floral designers Floratorium and Pic and Petal she created a floral installation in New York for Mother's Day. This installation honours nurses, doctors and patients fighting COVID-19. The art is in front of Lenox Health Greenwich Village Hospital for the next two weeks.

Carlos Franqui (Floratorium): "As a florist, my greater satisfaction is seeing people stop, smile, and witness their moods change with just seeing one of our installations. It was my duty and responsibility to make sure that this feeling wouldn't stop because of a virus pandemic."

Kenya
Nurses in health centres were on Monday treated to flowers to mark Nurses' Week and 2020 Year of the Nurse and Midwife as declared by the World Health Organisation, reports the Star. The treat was organised by the Kenya Healthcare Federation through Kepsa in partnership with Elgon Kenya and the Kenya Flower Council.

KHF board director Faith Muigai and SafeCare regional director carried the programme and also read out a message added on the flower bouquet from President Uhuru Kenyatta to the nurses.

United States, Florida
In celebration of International Nurses Day, over 1,000 nurses were presented with orchids and peace lilies by the Bloom & Grow Garden Society of Winter Garden.
FNGLA member nurseries donated the plants and packaging.

Hawaii
Happy hues of orange and yellow radiate in the sunshine as Russell Galanti prepares to harvest his latest crop. The sunflowers were planted earlier this year for the express purpose of creating beautiful table centerpieces for CTAHR’s 32nd Annual Banquet, an event scheduled more than 12 months ago to coincide with Spring 2020 graduation.

With everything cancelled due to COVID-19, there were no more tables to decorate, no guests to bring home the arrangements as party favors. So Russell shifted gears, and CTAHR decided to donate the bright, morale-boosting sunflowers to O’ahu hospitals. A video was also made.
