"The Glass Tulip, in particular, is an award growers are eager to win"

Royal FloraHolland launched the Glass Tulip Award – the top prize for the best flower-and-plant market introduction – to encourage growers and breeders alike. Esperit Plants is once again taking part this year. What does the Glass Tulip mean to Esperit Plants’ Yoram Westhoff?

Esperit is a one-stop-shop cultivation partner. At Esperit Youngs they grow young, green house plants (cuttings), with Esperit Plants producing a wide range of green house plants. They also create arrangements, especially for terrariums at Esperit Elements. This means the entire production process is in house, from start to finish. All three Esperit companies are continuously innovating when it comes to both technology, and to novelties and new concepts.

Importance of innovation
This is highly important to Esperit, since it's vital to keep surprising people with beautiful new plant varieties or ideas. When Esperit introduces innovations, it ensures these are brought to its customers' full attention; through newsletters, social media and of course personal contact. For them, keeping up to date with what's happening in the market - and especially with the market demand - is paramount. As a result, they can ensure continue their consumers' wishes and requirements are met at all times.

This isn't the first time that Esperit has submitted its novelties to Royal FloraHolland. "The Glass Tulip, in particular, is an award growers are eager to win: it's the crowning achievement for all our work on new plant varieties or concepts. What's more, the Glass Tulip has considerable sway within the sector, meaning the varieties nominated always receive additional attention. This creates more awareness within the market, which is of course always a plus. It essentially boosts the product's profile. In addition to the exposure for the items nominated, it's also a nice, pleasant evening where you can talk to many people from the floriculture sector", says Yoram Westhoff, account manager at Esperit Plants.
