UK: CambridgeHOK completes garden centre extension

CambridgeHOK has completed work extending a Northamptonshire garden centre, adding 1,028 square metres of new retail and leisure space for the owners.

The company has been repeatedly chosen to add new facilities at the Bell Plantation Garden Centre, in Towcester, over recent years.

This has included development of new retail buildings, canopies and glasshouses as the centre has continued to expand its offering to the local community.

The centre includes a cafe, food hall, gym, vet's surgery, nursery, a beauticians, a brewery, wedding specialists and a poultry centre, attracting more than 250,000 visitors a year.

Now, following the completion of CambridgeHOK’s fifth project at the site, extra space has been provided to enable the centre to add a new children’s indoor play centre, increase retail space and extend the café to be able to seat an extra 80 people.

The CambridgeHOK team completed all structural calculations, design and manufacture for the extension, and handled the planning application process on behalf of the client.

The new portal frame extension has been painted black on the exterior to give it a modern appearance, whilst the interior is painted white with roof-lights throughout ensuring it is flooded with natural light.

Noel O'Leary, sales manager at CambridgeHOK, said: “It is really pleasing as a business when you secure repeat work from an ambitious and successful client, and this was our fifth time working for Bell Plantation Garden Centre, who again have been delighted with the finished product.

“The new extension has been connected to the existing cafe building which has given the owner much more space to seat people and increased the retail space significantly, which we are sure will bring big benefits over time as this is a site which attracts a lot of visitors and retailers benefit from being part of.

“The client has returned to us on projects like this because they know we offer a complete buildings solution, from the initial design and planning through construction to handover.”
