Last week at their Naivasha showcase

An impression of the Open Days at De Ruiter East Africa (DREA)

"Growers were impressed with the quality of the Showhouse presentation and pleased to see many suitable variety options for their plantations, for both retail and wholesale market segments," says De Ruiter East Africa, when looking back at their open days that took place last week at their showcase in Naivasha, Kenya. Due to Covid-19, the Open Days were spread over the whole week, and inclusive of some grower selection visits 2 weeks earlier, adhering to the government regulations & safety measures.

Many growers were interested in De Ruiter’s retail mix, i.e. varieties which are well accepted in market & perform well in greenhouses, for example Furiosa®, Tropical Amazone®, Sonrisa®, Almanza®, Zanta® etc. Newer options like Trivia®, Pink Ice® and Lagreta® show promise. On the other hand, Pomarosa®, Born Free® and Opala® were popular for wholesale market.

DREA sees an interesting change in product selection in early 2021 after 10 months of successful sales compared to the period ending 2019. "More growers are willing to take a risk with newer variety prospects, that they were. Confidence in the industry’s immediate future is restored for the moment."

De Ruiter continue to envisage good market performance of Big Five Red’s, consisting of Ever Red®, Rhodos®, Furiosa®, Born Free® and newest edition to the list Flanna®.

DREA remains focused on the development of The new Big Five Colour collections – Yellow, Orange, White and Pink.   DREA’s depth of choice within each of the main colours, should be DREA’s strength!

Growers who visited showhouse were very satisfied with the Valentine sales and International Women’s day orders.

De Ruiter also presented their new popular spray rose line called Bubbles®. Among all, Barbie Bubbles, Coral Bubbles, Chocolate Bubbles, Misty Bubbles, Snow Bubbles were popular choices for growers.
