Lix Villarraga and Gustavo Ochoa tell more about the changes

Gloeckner Colombia becomes LYG Agroflowers S.A.S.

In December last year, Gloeckner in Colombia underwent a series of changes and one of the most important had to do with the new name of the company, which from this year will be LYG Agroflowers S.A.S. It is an independent company with a strong focus on the potted plants and garden segment. They now offer an even wider assortment as they signed an agreement with Ball Seed Chicago and Ball Colombia for the distribution of their products in Colombia, for the potted plants and garden area. In this article, Lix Villarraga and Gustavo Ochoa who led the company in Colombia, tell us more about the changes.

Name change
As said before, the name change was one of the most important changes. They chose this name given the important recognition they have in the market of flowers and plants, so they considered that it is easy to remember for their customers. Villarraga and Ochoa have a track record of more than 18 years in the market, and have had the advantage of growing with many of their customers, becoming part of the history of many of them, as well as part of their personal and professional development. "That has been the most beautiful part of this whole process, to feel that each of our clients and allied companies has supported us in every step of this new path," say Villarraga and Ochoa .

Agreement between Gloeckner and the Ball Group
As of 2021, LYG Agroflowers is an independent company with a strong focus on the potted plants and garden segment, and it is with great pride that they announce the agreement signed with Ball Seed Chicago and Ball Colombia for the distribution of their products in Colombia, for the potted plants and garden area. "Ball Seed is a business group with a fantastic portfolio, with companies such as Panamerican Seed, a leading company in hybridisation and seed production. Planting companies, production companies in specialised niches, in general Ball Seed is the largest and most important seed trader in the world, and wants to penetrate our market more aggressively with new products and new strategies."

They are very pleased with the assortment that they can offer, thanks to this agreement which came into force on January 1, 2021. "Through Ball Seed we will continue with the distribution of our usual portfolio, and with equally important varietal houses such as Sakata, Benary, Takii, Schoneveld, Florist and Morel, among others, which allows us to offer our customers the best assortment of seeds available in Colombia in the segment of pot and garden plants, and many of these houses will be marketed by our company exclusively."

"In addition to the above, since we are an independent company, we have a complementary portfolio ranging from in vitro plant material to bulbs, plastic pots, and many more products."

The new things that come with the agreement
"New portfolio of seeds, with the novelties of more than 10 hybridisation companies, new portfolio of vegetative material aimed at customers who meet the requirements of formality demanded by the different regulatory bodies such as ICA, CAR, ANLA, etc., and new market niches in bulbs. What will the new year bring?
Villarraga and Ochoa foresee a bright future "We see great job opportunities. Part of our company's vision is to contribute to the development of the sector and we believe that if we use our resources, our contacts and our knowledge well, we can generate bridges of communication that will take our clients and nurserymen in general to another level, with products of high genetic quality and better marketing opportunities, all through formal, legal and joint work."

The nursery industry in 2021
"During the pandemic that started in March 2020, we saw a sector full of opportunities, that even in times of great adversity, remains active and growing. We believe that the great conclusion for our guild is that we are working in a blessed sector, but that we must continue to strengthen our structure both within our companies and as a guild."

Gloeckner in the US
In December last year, owner, President and CEO of Fred C. Gloeckner & Company Inc., Joseph A. Simone, has made definite his plans for retirement from the distribution industry and announced an agreement with Ball Horticultural Company to transfer its open orders to Ball Seed. On Dec. 1, 2020, Gloeckner no longer accepted new orders and they shipped and serviced all orders in their system through the Dec. 18, 2020, ship date. All orders shipping after that date were transferred to and are now managed by Ball Seed.
