One of the largest orchid events, World Orchid Conference (WOC), will be held digitally this year. A virtual platform will allow orchid professionals as well as hobbyists to participate remotely. The opening ceremony will be held on April 23 and the conference will run from April 24-26, 2021.
WOC
The WOC is held every 3 years in a different country around the world and brings members of the global orchid community together. The conference comprises a scientific lecture program, an orchid show featuring displays by growers and enthusiasts from countries around the world, and a social program including banquets. Last year, the organizers of the show decided to postpone the 23rd edition to 2021 and this year, it will place digitally.
Virtual Judging (April 16 – 21)
Before the event takes off, many orchids will be judged. All of the orchids submitted for judging will be filmed in 3D to allow judges to cast their votes online on this platform. Judges will be able to see each orchid in 360-degree rotation and its background information. Orchid images can be fine tuned, enlarged or minimized, to see more in detail. After the completion of judging, all of the winning orchids will be displayed online for viewing.
Those who are interested in judging must register online for the 2021 Virtual WOC by March 31 and apply for judging by sending a request to the following E-mail address for an application form, judge@woc23.com
Opening Ceremony (10:00 AM GMT +8, April 23)
On April 23, the Opening Ceremony will take place. Everyone is invited to watch this virtually in real time to commence the 2021 Virtual WOC.
Virtual Orchid Exhibition (available online starting on April 24)
All of the orchid exhibits, the large landscape exhibits and the individual orchid exhibits, will be filmed in a 3-D fashion for all to enjoy virtually.
Virtual Conference (April 24 – 26)
Each and every day, there will be three concurrent sessions. There are 101 speakers. Other than participating in the conference real-time, registrants may also sign in to view and listen to these presentations online during the two months following the conference. One may leave questions which will be answered by the speakers and posted online timely.
One must register if you wish to participate in the virtual conference. You will be provided a password to sign in prior to the beginning of the conference.
The deadline for online registration is April 10.
