HTA's statement on announcement Northern Ireland's garden centres can open 12 April

Responding to the announcement that garden centres in Northern Ireland can re-open from Monday 12  April, James Barnes, Chairman, Horticultural Trades Association said:

“While it is disappointing that garden centres will be closed to the public for the Easter weekend, it is fantastic news that the Executive have brought forward their timetable for the re-opening of garden centres which was initially expected in May. We have had ongoing conversations with Ministers and officials about the impact of restrictions on horticulture in Northern Ireland and are thankful for the constructive meetings we have had over the last few months.”

“The early reopening of garden centres is testament to the hard work by everyone in the industry to illustrate the benefits gardening brings during lockdown and the excellent safety measures that garden centres have in place, enabling a consensus to finally be reached across the political spectrum in Northern Ireland.”
