Germany: Landgard's flower and plant sales up by 28.6%

The turnover of the producer cooperative Landgard is increased
by 21% to €508.5 million in the first quarter of 2021 (which was €420.3 million last year) and is thus also well above the target figures for the first quarter and the market development. “A big thank you goes out to our employees for their services under the difficult
COVID-19 conditions. To this day you are all coping with the
necessary hygiene and protective measures, changes and restrictions in an outstanding manner and with the greatest sense of responsibility”, said CFO Carsten Bönig.

Flowers and plants
The Flowers & Plants division was able to increase sales in the first quarter of 2021 by 28.6% to €386.9 million (previous year: €300.9 million). After January was still weak in sales due to the winter lock-down in the green sector, they were able to achieve significant sales growth, especially in March compared to the previous year, which was already influenced by Corona. Essential drivers for the positive development in the floriculture area are the sustained high
demand from customers and the opening of hardware stores and garden centers in March.

“Especially in specialist retail and in the Cash & Carry stores, things became extraordinary, mainly thanks to the skyrocketing demand in March. In addition, we have expanded the retail business with
strategic customers in the first quarter of 2021. The same applies to international sales, where we were able to win many new customers, despite all the difficulties caused by COVID-19”, says Dirk Bader, Board Member for Landgard Flowers & Plants.
