“Don’t be part of the problem, be part of the solution”

Pascal Matla is part of the FPC Cut Orchids, and thinks Floriday is an important, but difficult subject. “It’s like making a glove that has to fit everyone.”

Pascal Matla (40), with Walter Grootscholten Orchid nursery in the Westland region, the Netherlands. "The auction belongs to the members. Together, we make the cooperative stronger. That's my view of things. And that's the reason that I joined the FPC for Cut Orchids. Because if you're at the table, you can join the discussion. Together with the other growers in the committee, we look at how the auction can work for us as well as possible. Also on behalf of our members. A beautiful and important job to do, in my opinion."

"When I started at the FPC, Floriday was an important subject. And it certainly still is. Developing such an online platform for all four thousand members is difficult. It's like making a glove that has to fit everyone. I dove into Floriday very quickly from our own company. Because if you're in it from the start, you can grow with the development. Floriday works very well for the cut orchids. It fits with the way we work. However, for some of the other flowers and plants, this is not the case. That's a downside. And because Floriday was made mandatory so quickly, growers did not always agree with it. In the meantime, the planning has been adjusted. Exactly because we, as growers, let our voices be heard. That's the reason that my motto is: don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. Contribute constructively."

"Floriday is also an important topic in the FPC for the cut orchid. Just like all the other important, current topics for discussion. I organized a webinar with Floriday on behalf of the committee. Growers of cut orchids received explanations about the platform. And they could ask all of their questions. The meeting was well attended, and the questions were constructive. I'm proud of that. I am part of the FPC for a reason. And that is not to just attend meetings and nod in agreement. I really want to do something for our members."
