AgCenter Hammond Research Station plans field day

After having to cancel its annual horticulture field day last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, the LSU AgCenter will once again welcome nursery and landscape industry professionals to the Hammond Research Station on July 23 to hear about plant trial results and research projects.

The station also will release a package of virtual content, including video tours of the trial gardens and research presentations. The videos will be accessible at app.lsuagcenter.com/hammondtrials.

“We are very excited to welcome our green industry friends to the station after this hiatus,” said Jeb Fields, assistant professor, and extension specialist. “We have been working diligently on our plant trials and new research and can’t wait to share.”

The event will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m., with the program starting at 8 a.m. and ending with lunch. In addition to a tour of the trial gardens, the event will include research presentations on soilless substrates, diseases, and tea production, a state of the industry talk by Mike Strain, commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, a panel discussion hosted by the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association, the station’s newest faculty member, Damon Abdi, also will be introduced at the field day, and landscape architects can receive up to five continuing education credits if they attend the entire event.

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at https://bit.ly/3em1rpC.
