Study on postharvest vase life of gerbera under different chemical treatments

An experiment was conducted at National Horticulture Research Centre from 15th December 2020 to 29th December 2020 to find the best concentration of citric acid and salicylic acid each of 200 ppm with 3% sucrose that enhances and prolongs the flower quality and longevity.

The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design (CRD) with seven treatments and three replications. Among all the treatments, the vase solution of 4% sucrose with 200 ppm citric acid was found the best for the longest vase life.

Thus this combination can be used as a potential vase solution for commercial cut flower preservative solution for delaying flower senescence, enhancing the post-harvest quality, and prolonging the vase life of cut gerbera flowers.
