It became quite clear during the Chrysanthemum Week that the Chrysanthemum industry in Colombia is growing rapidly and companies are looking for strong varieties and novelties. During this week, held in Rionegro, Colombia, Floritec held its Open Days. Compared to last year, there was more room to receive customers. Back then, only growers from Rionegro could visit the trials, while now there were also many visitors from Bogota, Ecuador, and the US. This created a very positive dynamic.
Everyone seems to be looking for improvements in the assortment and also wants to be able to add novelties. Demand is growing fast and retail customers are asking for more volume in both spray and disbudded chrysanthemums. But santini is also showing an upward trend for use as a filler in mixed bouquets. Among the highlights to be found in the Floritec greenhouse were striking disbudded chrysanthemums. In 2022 the breeder expects to show even more in the disbudded segment.

Substantial growth for Floritec in Colombia
Juan Carlos Naranjo, Floritec's local representative says: "For Floritec, week 35 proved to be a particularly successful week this year. It was the perfect combination of the beautiful trial location, high quality of the crop, and the large number of new varieties and trial numbers that we could show our customers. It is amazing to see how fast Floritec is growing. We are in the middle of a process to expand our Colombia organization to better serve our customers."
Floritec welcomed more than 160 visitors. In addition, this week was used to inform local customers about Floritec's new logo and corporate identity.
Sales manager Ruud Smit was also present at the trial.
