Helix Australia names new waxflower hybrid after flower entrepreneur

Helix Australia is naming their new Waxflower hybrid 'Niek's Pride'. Bred by King’s Park & Botanic Garden and extensively trialed in Australia and South Africa, this waxflower variety has been named after well-known Dutch flower entrepreneur Niek Oudendijk.

Niek and the Oudendijk family are well known and respected globally in the cut flower industry, and have had a long-standing flower trading relationship with Australia, dating back to the mid-1980s.

Waxflower Niek’s Pride has been selected as an early flowering and vigorous hybrid displaying large pink buds and flowers.

"Niek has been a tremendous supporter to Helix Australia and WAFEX for many years, and we saw this as a great opportunity to honor his long-term involvement and success in cut flower import, export, growing, and breeding across many continents,” said Adrian Parsons, Managing Director Helix Australia.
