Houseplants have surged in popularity this year with Britons looking to add a touch of nature and color to their homes during lockdown. According to Google search results, there has been a 50 percent increase in searches for “houseplants uk”. The houseplant trend doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere, and plant expert Silver Spence, thinks there are certain trends gardeners should “look out for”.
Silver, who is a CEO of independent houseplant site Friends or Friends spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the houseplant trends gardeners can expect in 2022. She said: “The rise in biophilic design and the 60s/70s aesthetic will bring the outdoors truly in.
“With the boom in houseplant buyers in 2020, 2021 saw people dive into more ‘rare’ plants for social status -creating the plant influencer and allowing people to see that plants can be grown by anyone.”
Some of the main plants Silver foresees being popular next year include exotic vines and variegated plants among others. She said: “Hoya genus, Scindapsus genus, Trailing cacti like Monkey tail cactus and Fishbone cactus to add texture and interest.”
