Over the last years, this Dutch supplier of all kinds of seeds grew significantly in both customer base and its range, which has now passed the 4000 varieties. The company in question is Muller Seeds. According to Wim Zandwijk, the growth is a direct result of a continuous focus on quality. “In principle, we supply to every professional grower in the world. In addition to a reliable partner, a wide range and security of supply, they also simply want the best seed and guaranteed germination.” Last year, Muller Seeds moved into a new office and our colleagues of BPnieuws paid a visit recently.

Wim explains that giving a guarantee is not an issue of course. “However, we can do that because we are independent in our purchasing and customer approach. We buy in bulk from all world players and sell these to size, even in the largest, but especially in the smallest numbers. We are not tied to contracts with specific suppliers. A breeder obviously wants to sell his own genetics, but we want to sell the best seeds. Or at least seeds that are optimal for the customer in question. We can provide honest and objective advice in that regard.”

With customers in all corners of the world – although the focus is Europe, Muller has connections on every continent – it is a challenge to have a clear picture of what the individual relationship finds important. That is why Wim also focuses on solid staffing and he has various brokers. “We attach great importance to a good service package for all our customers. That is really a requirement to be able to serve everyone well. All orders that we receive, whether by mail, telephone, fax or handwritten orders, must be handled properly.”

The flower industry has grown over the last years. “The prices are good and that's why you see that the growers also dare to try different new varieties,” he concludes. “Species that were previously not or less popular are now suddenly in demand. In addition, more and more bouquets are being sold. Sometimes maybe with some other flowers in it because the prices are so high, but people want more color in their home and are willing to pay a little extra. We picked up the upward trend of a wide range of seeds about four or five years ago and it has only increased further. Let's hope that this trend will continue in the coming years, despite the serious problems of today."
