Ethylene Buster Sheets:

"The easiest way to protect ethylene sensitive cut flowers"

Ethylene damage is a major cause of the waste of flowers. This can be increased during periods of long and dark transport causing bud and flower drop and loss of ornamental value. With Chrysal’s new product Ethylene Buster Sheets, ethylene sensitive flowers are protected, easily and safely. There is no need to wet the sheet before use, making the process quicker as well as reducing the potential risk of development of Botrytis. Ethylene Buster Sheets are a post-harvest product for use in Colombia and 100%recyclable.

The new Ethylene Buster Sheets are impregnated with the active ingredient 1-MCP which blocks the ethylene receptors of cut flowers, thus protecting internally as well as externally produced ethylene. This results in reduced wastage whilst allowing an extended distribution and sales period. Keeping ethylene-sensitive flowers such as carnations, lilies, certain rose varieties, and mixed bouquets beautiful longer by preventing premature shrinking and dropping buds, leaves, and flower petals.

Unique about the new sheets is that there is no need to wet the sheet before use, making the process quicker as well as reducing the potential risk of development of Botrytis. It is also more than 70% lighter in comparison to a treatment of a wetted 1-MCP sachet. The Ethylene Buster Sheets are easy and labor-saving in use; simply place the sheets with the flowers in the box. Ethylene Buster Sheets are currently only available on Colombian sourced flowers. Ethylene Buster Sheets are 100% recyclable.

What is Ethylene?
Ethylene is an aging hormone that has two sources; the flower's own production and ethylene sources outside of the cut flower. Internally produced ethylene depends on a range of circumstances brought on by stress. Stress can be caused by transport, water shortage, and lack of light.

The ethylene sources outside the cut flower are exhaust fumes, industrial smoke, vegetable, fruit, and micro-organisms that pollute the atmosphere with ethylene. This ethylene is absorbed by the flower and increases the internally produced ethylene levels already present, which cause the flower to wilt more quickly, drop buds, flowers and leaves and accelerate ripening/aging.

Developmental stages, once reached, cannot be reversed. But with the new Ethylene Buster Sheets from Chrysal it is possible to protect your cut flowers against ethylene damage. Keeping them beautiful longer.
