Terra Nova Nurseries announced a sneak peek of its brand-new Kniphofia ‘Rocket Jr.’ "The perennial features fiery conical flowers with a color intensity shifting from deep, red-orange to a golden afterburn. New flowers push through the plant’s green foliage summer through frost, holding tight and upright. This plant needs some heat and high light."
Kniphofia ‘Rocket Jr.’ has a variety of special uses, the company says; "it makes for a great cut flower and hummingbird attractor. It is also deer resistant and well-suited for the Deep American South. This vibrant perennial has great landscape value and is perfect for mass plantings. This variety offers a color spot in mixed beds or an upright accent."
U.S.D.A. Hardiness Zones for Kniphofia ‘Rocket Jr. are 6-9, and its exposure favors full sun but tolerates light afternoon shade in hot climates. This plant likes to be dry between waterings and needs spacing 18 to 24” apart. It has a height of 12”, a width of 9”, and flower height of 16”.
Terra Nova Nurseries has created a “Plant Profile” page and “Grower Recipe” specific to this new variety so growers interested in orders can learn about growing habits, plant characteristics, fertilization recommendations, water requirements, and other insights provided by the breeding team. These documents can be viewed and downloaded for printing here.
