The South African wax flower season will start in the coming weeks and run until mid-November. Australian breeder Helix Australia currently has three licensed wax flower growers, mainly producing in the Western Cape region of South Africa.
Targeting new and current licensed growers in Australia, Israel, and the USA, Helix Australia is assembling a farm tour of its South African farms in mid-August 2022.
Kicking off in Capetown, the tour will include visits to three wax flower farms and other sites of horticultural significance in the region, such as citrus, grapes, and avocado farms.
Adrian Parsons Helix Australia's managing director will host the tour. “Our South African growers have expanded new plantings of our wax flower in recent years and have been quick to identify the superior genetics in our range,” said Parsons.
Parsons continued, "Our South African growers are all operating great flower farm operations, and growers joining the tour will gain a lot from visiting these farms in the peak of the wax flower harvest season."
The wax flower farm tour is set for an estimated date of 8-15 August. This timing will enable tour participants to see a range of Helix early, mid and late season wax flower varieties in flower.
In addition, the proposed dates coincide with the off-season for wax flower growers in the northern hemisphere- namely Israel and California.
