Morocco's National Food Safety Authority (ONSSA) has announced a ban on the import of all types of plants, such as saplings, ornamental plants, and seeds, into the country. Such an action was taken to prevent the aerobic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa from spreading.
According to AZERTAC, all imported plants will be confiscated and destroyed according to current regulations. At the same time, plants that satisfy phytosanitary requirements are allowed into the country.
Xylella fastidiosa causes desiccation of oleander and almond leaves, peach disease, and Pierce's disease and also impacts citrus fruits in Brazil.
