Schoneveld Breeding was established in 1930 and is a major player in the global market. In the Netherlands, there are about 150 employees. Depending on the season, that is supplemented with up to 150 employees at a production location in Tanzania. Strong genetics, sharing expertise, and constant innovation are the foundations of the company’s success.

Schoneveld Breeding in China
In the Chinese market, Schoneveld Breeding has a stable, healthy increase in business year by year. “Even though the corona pandemic has hit China hard, Schoneveld Breeding kept faith in the Chinese market. The company develops from origin cold-loving pot plants such as Cyclamen, Primula, Ranunculus, and Campanula. Besides that, Schoneveld Breeding innovates in heat-tolerant pot plants, such as the large-flowered Super Serie Cyclamen Leopardo.

Research & development
A significant part of the business of Schoneveld Breeding is research. What is needed to improve the seed production of plants? How can products be strengthened? Or be improved? What innovations can be made to create even better products? With its own Research & Development department, Schoneveld Breeding runs practical trials. “Researchers look for ways to improve germination and search how the use of fertilizers and crop protection products can be reduced. In that way, Schoneveld Breeding enables everyone to grow successful sustainable products out of their genetics.”

United innovations
To be as successful as the company is, they take part in several collaborations and associations. For example, there is the establishment of and investment in Breeding Accel together with other breeders. “The aim is to reduce the time to market and lead time of the breeding cycle. Plants do not need to be fully grown anymore for conclusions to be drawn, as distinctive features are already clear at DNA level. Breeding Accel is an innovative knowledge platform where research capacity and investments are united. Thereby processes can be speeded up in a targeted and focused manner. The result of a collaboration like this is the innovation of special flower series based on the existing assortment. Besides that, complete new flower assortments are developed too, which everyone will see soon!”
