India: Commissioner Secretary Floriculture visits Budgam

Commissioner Secretary Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, today visited Budgam and inaugurated an awareness cum training program on Commercial Floriculture for growers and entrepreneurs at Kanira Park in Chadoora block.

The program was organized by District Floriculture Office under the ongoing Jan Abhiyan program in the district. Among others, Director Floriculture, Farooq Ahmad Rather, Deputy Director Shahid Rasool, District Floriculture Officer Mazhar Mustafa, and other officers were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Secretary deliberated upon various schemes, including MIDH, RKVY, and ATMA. He urged the unemployed youth and aspiring entrepreneurs to register themselves under these schemes to start their own businesses in aromatic plant cultivation, cut flower, and ornamental nurseries for their as well as others' employment and revenue generation.

He impressed upon the officers to carry out intensive training, exposure, and awareness across the district to reach out to a maximum number of growers attracting them towards highly profitable cultivation, including lavender, Bulgarian, and Kashmiri rose farming.

He also spoke about the facilities and incentives being provided by the department to the growers under various schemes. Commissioner Secretary said that the department is strengthening the floriculture network by introducing new technologies, extending handholding to growers, and creating market linkages for floriculture products at domestic and international markets.
