Garry Grüber, Cultivaris, on Garland Hydrangea French Bolero ‘Evolution’

"Amongst the category of garland hydrangeas it can truly be regarded as a (r)evolution"

"This is the very first garland-type hydrangea that has full mophead flowers all along the elegant stems rather than lacecap flower heads. This results in many more flowers, more color, and more wow! at point of sale – the best basis for brisk sales", says Garry Grüber, CEO of Cultivaris GmbH, when talking about the latest breeding breakthrough from the Japanese breeder Ushio Sakazaki for introduction in 2023. "Amongst the category of garland hydrangeas, French Bolero 'Evolution' can truly be regarded as a (r)evolution!"

According to Grüber, for the consumer, caring for the new French Bolero is very easy. "This variety gets more beautiful from year to year without the need for pruning. As with other hydrangeas, the pH of the soil/compost determines whether the flower color is soft pink (in neutral soil/compost) or baby blue (in soil/compost with low pH)."

The new French Bolero' Evolution' is particularly stunning in large containers or hanging baskets, he adds. "The ideal partner variety in pure white is the very first garland hydrangea, Runaway Bride, which has been immensely successful around the globe. Given the similarity in vigor, growth, and flowering habit, all three colors can be cultivated side by side and can be displayed together at POS – creating an irresistible display. The horticulture wholesale and retail industries can rely on our international network of experienced, professional growers in Europe." (For an overview of their grower network, click here.

Of particular interest to the trade partners will be special forms of these garland hydrangeas, e.g., pyramids and trellises – product forms that are only possible with this type of hydrangea. "Further exciting product forms are already in the pipeline."

With the introduction of garland hydrangeas, Garry Grüber has set a totally new standard in the product range of hydrangeas –"It  cannot only be used in the garden, with exceptional performances but there are myriad uses and applications of these varieties on balconies, terraces and in floristry."

The big advantage for all their network growers, he explains, is that they not only receive technical support but also comprehensive marketing support – branded colorful pots, labels, banners, press releases, and social media. "To date, garland hydrangeas have been prominently presented in several prominent TV shows throughout Europe."

French Bolero ‚Evolution 'will be shown for the very first time at the IPM Essen 2023 from January 24-27, 2023, both at the Discovery Centre and at the novelty competition of the ZVG. Garry Grüber will be present at this large horticultural trade show to personally present this exciting new introduction.
