Product innovations from Ecocool Ltd. meet with a positive response

"Thermal hood extends shelf life and reduces temperature damage along the logistics chain"

The new thermal hood from Ecocool offers basic protection for all temperature-sensitive products at transport interfaces, especially for air transport. The solution is particularly suitable for protecting fruit and vegetables, berries, and cut flowers and met with a gratifying response during the Bremerhaven-based packaging specialist's first trade fair presence at Fruit Logistica, says Dr. Florian Siedenburg, Managing Director of Ecocool Ltd.

"A nice demand for our new thermal hood, our insulating boxes, and data loggers confirms that we are on the right track with our product portfolio. For the first time, Fruit Logistica offered us the opportunity to also present our food packaging to a broad international audience from the global fruit industry," Siedenburg further stated.

Dr. Florian Siedenburg, Managing Director of Ecocool Ltd., at this year's Fruit Logistica.

The new thermal hood 'Eco-Breath' has been consistently further developed on the basis of Ecocool's globally successful pharmaceutical thermal hoods, having been adapted to the requirements of food logistics. The hood consists of micro-perforated foil on a tear- and puncture-resistant PP fabric. The reflective film layers will insulate very effectively, protecting the goods from heat and frost damage. The microperforated structure helps to remove ethylene produced by ripening processes and thus prevents ethylene-related product aging.

Siedenburg: "In addition, the micro-perforation improves the exchange of air humidity on the product during strong temperature fluctuations and thus prevents condensation. It extends shelf life and reduces temperature damage and spoilage along the logistics chain." The area of application for the thermal hood, he said, is the handling interfaces at airports, where perishable goods are thus protected from high heat and fluctuating humidity.

The 'Eco-Breath' solution was first presented to the fruit industry at Fruit Logistica.

Shipping bags and cartons with insulating layer
Ecocool also presented its Inno series in Berlin: the sustainable product line includes the 'Innobag' shipping bag and the 'Innobox' shipping carton with insulating layer. In both products, the insulating material is based on cellulose from paper recycling. "In combination with cooling elements, the packaging solutions ensure that the target temperature during shipping remains below eight degrees Celsius for between 24 and 48+ hours, depending on the format and the coolant added," Siedenburg emphasizes.

Innovative container insulation
Ecocool also offers cost-effective and easy-to-handle container insulation for temperature-sensitive cargo. When folded, the solution is extremely space-saving and very easy to install, he said. "Optimal function is made possible by the all-around cladding of the container. With the help of the insulation, the internal temperatures are approx. 10 °C lower than with an uninsulated container. This reduces temperature fluctuations and prevents the formation of condensation," Siedenburg concludes.
