Chinese company produces 8 million Phalaenopsis seedlings a year

"We established Dezhou Hequn Flower Co., Ltd. in Dezhou, Shandong Province, in 2017. It is a Taiwanese joint venture registered and established with the approval of the Dezhou Municipal Government. Now we have built a 20,000-square-meter American-standard smart greenhouse," said Ms. Han Longmei from Hequn Flower.

"By continuously introducing the latest varieties, technologies, and equipment at home and abroad, we can provide Phalaenopsis seedlings of different specifications to customers in different regions of the international market with an excellent ratio of quality and cost", says Ms Han.

The company consists of around 4500m² of tissue culture laboratories, 180 ultra-clean workbenches, and 35000m² of smart greenhouses exist.

The team includes more than 200 people, and continues to grow and is committed to the continuous improvement and improvement of breeding research and development, virus detection, tissue culture expansion, orchid seedling cultivation, and business marketing.

For a long time, its breeding department has carried out hundreds of crosses and the selection of their seedlings in the annual breeding plan. In about 40% of the hybrid combinations, 1-10 single plants can be selected from each hybrid strain and handed over to the tissue culture laboratory for a test screening.

In line with market trends and basic commercial production requirements, the meristematic seedlings grown from these single plants need to be carefully observed and recorded, including considerations for plant health and virus detection, so only a small number of varieties can enter the phase of trial production.

Varieties with potential are subject to more stringent conditions in the third stage and can enter commercial mass production after passing.

In today's increasingly competitive market, the company continues to increase investment in research and development technology and the establishment of a research and development system and has established a rich resource bank of orchid varieties and modern production processes.

In China, the company is a relatively large enterprise that produces standardized, specialized, and modern Phalaenopsis. Its products are exported to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Canada, Europe, and other overseas markets.

At present, the base produces more than 8 million high-grade Phalaenopsis seedlings and more than 1,300 varieties, including Chaoqun No. 9, Chaoqun Gold Brick, and Chaoqun Xiaotiantian. It exports 9.5 million bottled seedlings and 2.5 million seedlings annually. The company has become the backbone of Chin's orchid production industry.

"The general manager of our company, Mr. Liao Xueshun, is an expert in Taiwan flowers, a reviewer of the International Orchid Exhibition, and the president of the Taiwan Orchid Breeding Association. Today, Mr. Liao has more than 1,300 new varieties of Phalaenopsis independently developed. Relying on this strong advantage, in the future, we will not only be able to compete in China but also all over the world," concludes Ms Han.
