For 40 years, Richard Scheffers of Richplant has been growing the finest houseplants. With its many exclusive plant varieties, Richplant has been a well-known name in the pot plant country since 1983.
Saturday, May 13, marks Richplant's 40th anniversary. Richard Scheffers started his own pot plant nursery at an early age. Growing houseplants was part of his life almost from the start. His father, Jan Scheffers, and his brothers were pioneers in this field, and several cousins also continued working in houseplants. By the age of 19, Richard already had his own 6,200 m2 nursery on Poeldijksepad in Honselersdijk, and it didn't stop there...
In these 40 years, Richplant has grown from 0.6 to 6 hectares on the Grote Achterweg in Naaldwijk. They grew many different products, which were always a bit different from the 'standard' plants. Besides growing their famous Gardenia Jasminoides, Richplant grows exclusive seasonal products such as the Caladium, Jatropha Multifida, Jatropha Podagrica, Curcuma Siam, Aphelandra, and Plumeria.
Richard Scheffers: ''Over the past 40 years, we have experienced everything from various crises to fantastic years. The last few years can be called enervating with all the challenges, such as Covid and the energy crisis. Without our close-knit team, Richplant would not be what it is today. So we are also very grateful to them for their loyalty to our company. We are also grateful to our regular customers for the trust placed in us; some of these companies have allowed us to be their supplier for 40 years."
Richplant has been a member of Decorum Company since its inception. "This membership has brought us a lot, such as contacts with trade, knowledge exchanges among colleagues, and various marketing activities."
What will the next 40 years look like? "We will continue to parry all challenges with horticulture and create solutions for all problems. With Richplant, we hope to do our part in this for many years to come and make many people happy with our products.''
