Stronger, more resistant, easier to grow, and new colors. Breeders are always looking for new and improved varieties. And for Italian breeder and young plant supplier Lazzeri Agricola, it is no different. For spring-summer 2024, they have a new Mandeville and Catharanthus variety and a completely new petunia collection that they introduce. How they fit the current trends is explained by Andrea Lazzeri, the company's global product manager.

Mandevilla Brasileira
Lazzeri expanded their Brasileira series with a new variety: Snow White. "Special about this variety is the pure white color that appears from the first flowers till the end of flowering, which Is not always obvious for a Mandeville. On top of that, it is abundant and medium-early flowering, easy to grow and suitable for all requirements, with excellent branching and ideal for 10.5 to XXL pots." They trialed it at several areas, and the interest is there, explains Andrea. "The Mandeville is a real trend plant because for the end user it is easy to use and excellent performance throughout the summer until the early cold weather, and that is whether it is in the south or north of Europe."
Prizma Petunia collection
This new collection resulted out of a demand for special and new varieties, says Andrea. "We are familiar with breeding petunias, in 2015, we introduced our first petunia series, named "La Signora." Special about this collection is the color, flower pattern, and growing habit. "The collection consists of 18 bright colors, the flower pattern changes throughout the season, and it is easy to grow in the greenhouse and outdoors."
Catharanthus Tropicana
Tropicana is a new Catharanthus genetics, Special about this variety is that it is ideal for hot summers and heavy rains. This year, they showed it for the first time at the Flower Trials, and it received an interest that they didn't expect. "People are always looking for plants that are resistant to high temperatures during the summer and as well as resistant to heavy rains, and this is one of such plants. On top of that, it also flowers early and abundant, has medium to strong growth, is easy to maintain and homogeneous between the varieties." Currently, the range consists of 9 colors.
