For more than 30 years, Plantec has been introducing new varieties, and they have become one of the largest houses of rose varieties in Ecuador. "Part of our goal is to make sure every market segment has a spectacular rose for their needs, whether it is an arrangement, a bunch, a bouquet, or an extravagant design," says Aviram Krell of Plantec.
Trends
"Our position in the floral chain is really interesting, we can see what trends are being developed genetically not only for the next year but 3, 4, 5, sometimes up to 6 years in advance. We also know what rose growers are preparing for by which varieties are being planted. Although this side of trend forecasting is very one-sided, we are seeing a lot of overlap between the trends we are preparing for and trends in major fashion, interior design, and social media."
Varieties awarded
Over the years, Plantec varieties have won several prizes, and recently, they have won many ribbons in the SAF annual Outstanding Varieties Competitions. Including Best in Show in the Standard Rose category.
Aloha
"At Plantec, we are proud of the growers who competed using our varieties, special thanks and congratulations to Dream Farms, who won not only Best Standard Rose with the orange variety Aloha but also the People's Choice award for their Aloha. Dream Farms also earned blue ribbons with the outstanding varieties Princess Crown and Jacaranda. Also, special thanks and congratulations to RioRoses for their great success in winning a blue ribbon with their Sweet Mondial Rose."
Star Platinum and Phoenix
Additionally, varieties such as Star Platinum from RioRoses, Red Panther from Royal Flowers, Phoenix from Rosaprima, and Symbol from Alexandra Farms won red ribbon awards in the outstanding varieties competition.
Red Panther and Symbol
"We are humbled that so many farms decided to compete with Plantec varieties and are uplifted to see the incredible results our selection programs are having. Plantec, for decades, has had the strictest selection criteria for any new rose variety, and we are overjoyed at seeing the continued success of our work."
"Recently, we have had an incredible amount of feedback not only from our direct clients (the growers) but also the wholesalers, retailers, florists, and designers, who are so incredibly critical for the floral chain and have shared priceless insights as to their particular needs, and perspectives."
