The exports of the Turkish floriculture sector, which employs approximately 500,000 people, exceeded 137 million dollars in 2022. Turkey is looking for ways to get a larger share of the 43 billion dollar world flowers and ornamental plants market and is hosting a fair in November in order to achieve this goal.
The fair, which will be held at the Istanbul Expo Center (IFM) on 16-18 November 2023, is expected to contribute 10% to the growth of the sector. The fair organizers pointed out that despite Turkey's progress in recent years, it is still ranked 20th in the world export list and added that there are more than 12,000 plant species in Turkey, 4,000 of which are endemic. In this respect, Turkey is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world. The expectation is that the fair will contribute at least 10% to the growth of the sector by bringing together European professionals and Turkish growers. More than 5,000 landscape and ornamental plant professionals from approximately 40 countries are expected to visit the fair.
