UK: Flower business comes up roses after scooping gold sustainability award

A family business described as the world's first-ever British-only flower subscription service has come up roses after winning gold at this year's Big Sustainability Awards.

MeadowSweet scooped the 'SME Sustainability Journey' category at the awards held at Southampton's Ageas Bowl.

Founder Sophie Townsend said: "We're over the moon to have been recognized for our efforts to become a more sustainable business. It means a lot to us for all the hard work the team has put in over the years."

"It's truly an honor to win this award." MeadowSweet was founded in 2016 by Sophie from her studio in Bournemouth. It uses exclusively 100 percent British flowers and foliage throughout the year, providing customers with a sustainable alternative to imported – typically cold-chain, air-freighted – flowers. They currently account for 86 percent of all the cut flowers sold in the UK.
