AU: Students chase their horticulture dreams in a regional Victorian town

Danny Li and Faith Yao met in Melbourne in 2013 as two international graduates, out to study IT and accountancy – but life had a very different plan for them. Fast-forward to today, and the couple runs a thriving flower nursery in the picturesque coastal town of Timboon, Victoria, a career path wildly different to their initial plans when they arrived in Australia..

For Danny, it all started with a visit to one of his teachers' aquaponics farm. The intricate processes and technologies captivated him, prompting him to delve into agriculture and horticulture through YouTube videos. "Most people turn to YouTube for entertainment; I go straight for agriculture and gardening videos. They fascinate me," Danny said.

Faith, on the other hand, developed a love for horticulture from a young age. "I might be the ultimate drive on us venturing into this nursery business," she said.

Growing up in Suzhou, China, a city renowned for its intricate, traditional Chinese gardens, Faith's mother worked at a local agriculture school specialising in horticulture and landscaping. "I used to spend lots of time wandering around those gardens, there was probably a seed of love planted in my heart when I was a child," Faith said.
