In Pune, the upcoming Gokulashtami festival has triggered a significant increase in the demand for flowers, leading to a noticeable rise in prices.
The wholesale flower market in the Market Yard witnessed heavy crowds on Sunday as people rushed to purchase flowers for the festival, celebrated on Monday, August 26.
The surge in demand is also driven by the Gopalkala celebration, which occurs the day after Gokulashtami. Due to the rainy season, the quality of fresh flowers has been impacted, resulting in a higher preference for dried flowers. Consequently, flower prices have surged, according to Sagar Bhosale, a trader from the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard.
Gokulashtami is celebrated in various temples, leading to a high demand for flowers for decoration and worship. Farmers from Pune, Satara, and Solapur districts have sent flowers for sale, Bhosale said.
