US: Must Have Perennials issues update on its 2025 outlook

2025 is off to a great start for Must Have Perennials, a breeder representation firm that manages intellectual property for the ornamental sector. Formerly known as Blooms of Bressingham, the company rebranded in 2016 and is now based out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the United States.

Rare Life Plants
In 2025, Must Have Perennials is taking new directions with its latest brand, Rare Life Plants. This brand is focused on material that has been part of the ex-situ conservation efforts of Tony Avent and Juniper Level Botanical Garden. As such, Must Have Perennials will be launching genetics from the breeding efforts of Tony with a long-term goal of supporting the JLBG Foundation and its mission.

The organization is working to bring these plants to a broader market, with goals for full commercialization in 2026 and 2027. "We have partners interested in trialing the plants and we are already getting some great feedback. The agaves are just the beginning of this effort, there's going to be a lot of great material that will work for a wide swath of growers around the world." More information can be found here.

Building partnerships at horticultural trade shows
"We are very much looking forward to many of the plant varieties that will be added to the exhibit this year," said General Manager, Justin Wisniewski. "There were some extremely productive meetings with breeders and licensees during Mants in Baltimore, "It's always a good opportunity to catch up with our business partners in person, and Mants brings us together at the start of the year. " Justin regularly travels to horticultural trade shows with the goal of building key partnerships that span the globe.

Paul Gooderham is the company's breeder agent oversees and regularly attends European tradeshows with Justin, Paul has been working in the industry for 50 years.

In years past, Must Have Perennials shared booth space with Aris Horticulture, its parent company, and the Green Leaf Plants and Keepsake Plants divisions. It was exciting to have our own space to show new varieties to the industry. "We're counting this year's Mants as a success, " Kris Smith, marketing manager for Must Have Perennials says.

The Rockies Helleborus series is still top of mind in the industry, as these new introductions have been gaining awards due to their foliage. The display featured trays of Mount Nebo and Pike's Peak, along with a potted Mount Teton. "It was a great opportunity to show the hellebores in mixed planters to highlight the diversity of the plants," states the Must Have Perennials team. The new hellebore series is available to order from Aris Horticulture - Green Leaf Plants.

An additional spotlight this year at the Must Have Perennials booth was on a new variety, Gazania 'Luna'. The breeding for this variety comes from Australia. "We are excited about bringing this zone 8-11 plant to the U.S. market. Featuring silver foliage and a prostrate habit, this versatile showstopper is easy to produce and fills out containers in a short period of time."
