On April 28th, the 8th World Garden Show grandly opened in Haining, Zhejiang, China. With the theme "unceasing vitality of garden economy", the event showcases new plant varieties and explores future horticultural opportunities. Spanning 500,000 square meters, the show is expected to attract over 150,000 visitors. It is hosted by the China-EU Horticultural Association, organized by Hongyue Co., and co-organized by the Shanghai Horticulture Training and Demonstration Center.
Indoor and outdoor displays
The show features two main sections—indoor and outdoor—bringing together hundreds of renowned horticultural enterprises to present their latest innovations. Participating companies include Hongyue Seeds, Takii, Syngenta, Sakata, Shandong Hongmei Horticulture, Brighten, Selecta One, Dümmen Orange, and others.
For their display, Hongyue Seeds creatively combined traditional Chinese medicine cabinets with fresh-cut flower displays, while Syngenta designed a striking garden using Helianthus annuus 'Sunfinity'.
The outdoor area includes over 20 themed gardens and 7 flower beds. Highlights include a Hydrangea macrophylla garden featuring over 10,000 potted hydrangeas, and a Chinese Rose Garden with 20,000 potted roses arranged into an immersive maze.
ACS new varieties selection
The ACS (All China Selection), initiated in 2010 by Hongyue Company and partner breeders, selects the best flower varieties for the Chinese market.
This year's gold prize winners are Dahlia pinnata 'Starburst Pink' (PanAmerican Seed), Impatiens balsamina 'SunPatio Blush Pink' (Sakata), Heliopsis helianthoides 'Whispers of Leaves' (Beijing Horticulture Institute).
These award-winning varieties are noted for their disease resistance and compact size, making them ideal for balcony cultivation.
