NL: Temporary alternative truck route available in Rijnsburg due to NATO summit

During the NATO summit, the A44 will be closed. This means that the floriculture sector will not be able to use the usual freight traffic routes and travel to and from the Royal FloraHolland hubs. To ensure accessibility to the Rijnsburg hub, the municipality of Katwijk has set up a temporary alternative route.

From Wednesday 25 June at 11:00 a.m. to Thursday 26 June at 6:00 a.m., freight traffic will be allowed to travel via the Rijnsburgerweg – Oegstgeesterweg – Sandlaan. Normally, this route is closed to freight traffic, but this restriction will be temporarily lifted.

Rules for safe use
The alternative route passes through residential and school areas, prompting specific agreements to ensure safety and maintain the quality of life. Freight traffic is permitted only from Wednesday, June 25, 11:00 a.m. to Thursday, June 26, 6:00 a.m., and solely if necessary. A speed limit of 30 km/h is enforced across the entire route. Due to the presence of schoolchildren cycling, freight traffic should avoid the 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. timeframe as much as possible. This temporary exemption is applicable only to the route Rijnsburgerweg – Oegstgeesterweg – Sandlaan, with freight traffic prohibited on Brouwerstraat, and this restriction will be monitored. The overall traffic situation will be observed throughout the day to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance safety.

Main closures and expected consequences
The NATO summit will have a major impact on the accessibility of our hubs. Royal FloraHolland has compiled an overview (in Dutch) of the most important closures and their expected impact on the accessibility of the hubs in general, as well as per day.
