Horti ASIA 2013, Bangkok, Thailand

If you say Horticulture, you say The Netherlands. Horti ASIA welcomed an impressive Dutch exhibitor pavilion. However other countries like Korea, Taiwan, Germany and China where also well represented by leading horticultural organizations and suppliers. This made the exhibition well balanced.

A big plus for the exhibition was the cooperation with the University of Bangkok. Horticultural students supported exhibitors by translating and informing local growers about the new technologies.

"Frank Hermans from Asian Perlite Industries Malaysia together with Gregor van den Oetelaar from Bercomex flower automation. Van den Oetelaar said that their is a raising demand for packing automation due to a fast increase of the minimum wages in Thailand and surrounding countries. "There is a big shortage of labour, so farmers are sourcing their workers from Birma. However these low wages are increasing very fast, up to 4 times in a year. Hence, we think it is now the right time to implement smart packing and sorting techniques", van den Oetelaars said."
