First of all at the stand of Van den Bos Flowerbulbs is this beautiful Rose Lily(at the right side). The genetics of this plant are breed to get a short compact plant.

Number two is the Calla Ivory Art. This is the newest variety of Könst but Van den Bos Flowerbulbs has exclusive rights to sell this beauty.

Daan just couldn't keep himself from taking three Freesias, after all he is the Freesia guy of the company. The beauty at the right is the Verona, then in de middle we have the Luca with nice light yellow flowers (also a new colour) and last but not least the Torino.

At the site of Sion visitors could take a look at all the varieties that are grown in their greenhouse.

One of their topmodels, Education. A nice Phaleanopsis grown in potsize 12. With flowers of 8 cm a real beauty.

This one doesn't have a name yet but i probably isn't going to take long before it does. For now is goes by the number H1204.

One more topmodel, the Flirtation. With really nice flowers over 8,5 cm wide you just can't miss it.

And people had the opportunity to grab a cup of coffee.

The Sunfinity of Syngenta had is first commercial year and is grown by Apartus. For now the only grower that (is allowed) grows it.

Two recognizable faces, recently joined, in the sector. For the first time Varinova now stood as the cyclamen brand of Syngenta.

This one really caught your attention with her enormous flowers. This is the Hybiscus Extreme and had flowers over 25 cm wide.

This is the Kalanchoë Diva-Els from the Calandiva serie. This one will be introduced officially at the IPM Essen coming january.

This one also got some attention, it is a nice kalanchoë that changes colour.

This rare looking plant is called Coleus Space Cake from the brand Freaky Leaves by Dummen Orange.

Dummen also released a whole new serie called the Margarita Double Serie. For now it contains three colours; Pink, White and Yellow.

This is their Alstroemeria for in the garden. It's a really ourdoorplant, for now it's still just a number (PB1506).

This is the Garvinea from Florist Holland and is a real outdoor plant and is the first one that has a dubbel flower.

The new Flori Line / Seasonal mix of Florist Holland. They want to inspire the growers with these concepts and help them showing the trends and making seasonal offered mixes. Also they want to inspire the consumer with this new concept to show them that there are a lot more possibillities with the gerbera.

Here we have the Patio Pinnacles, with a flower over 16cm wide you just can't miss it.

A herbmix in one pot. There are several. There are several combinations for different tastes.

At Hem Genetics visitors could taste the different varieties.

This is Dianthus IQ. The advantage of this variety is that it flowers early - seven days earlier than other varieties. On top of that, with the new genetics, it stays compact (see the difference between the old genetics on the left.

Also 4 new colors in the Salvia series. Next to the red, now also purple, salmon, white and red bi-color.

As you can see, the new genetics are are much compacter and fuller than the old.

The new begonia of FloraNova; Night Fever Popaya from the Bossa Nova series. This varieties has many flowers and dark foliage.

The new series of Koppe Begoniel; Sweeties. The varieties in this series are genetic more compact and therefore need only fe PGR's. Currently, Van der Pligt is the only grower of this product in the Netherlands. There are 6 colors'red, white, pink, light yellow, salmon and adonia pink. Soon, two new colors will be added.

Adri Gillissen of AGIA-ornamentals in front of the Toscane pelargonium. Gillsen represents several Dutch breeding companies in Asia. Toscana is one of his best sellers in Asia.

All day long food and drinks were served at Florensis.

The nominees of the FleuroStar awards; Xerochrysum bracteatum Granvia Gold of MNP Flowers, Pelargonium zonale Survivor Idols Rosalinda of Dümmen Orange, Pelargonium hybrida Red Explosion of Florensis, Begonia x hybrida Viking Red on Chocolate of Sakata Ornamentals, and Begonia elatior Dreams Garden MacaRouge van Beekenkamp Plants. This latter variety of Beekenkamp won.

Remco Wertwijn of Florensis with Salvia Misty. This salvia variety was introduced last year. This variety is growing naturally compact and uniform and is one of the bluest salvia’s on the market. For the consumer, it flowers all summer long till frost.

Red |Explosion. This pelargonium variety of Florensis, that also competed in the Fleurostar awards, has dark foliage, bright red flowers and does not require PGR’s and is self-cleaning. At the IPM 2019 is was introduced for the first time.

Pink Panther is a variety of Takii and Florensis distributes this variety in Europe. Unique about this variety, next to the panther print is that it quickly branches which results in a continuously flowering product, explains Wertwijn. On top of that, it is a sterile plant adjusts its size to different pot sizes.

Harry Nieuwenhuijsen and Pascal Rossen van Desch Plantpak presenting the Imca (the one that Harry is holding) and Mayca (the one that Pascal is holding). Both are decorative pots, but Imca consists of two pots, a grow container and a cover pot. So, the plants are grown in the container and after cultivation, the plant and pot are transferred into the Imca Cover pot, which also has a water reservoir. Mayca is a decorative cultivation pot. Besides that, they are also presenting their degradable pots D-Grade (on the left) and Recover, pots and trays made out of post-consumer plastic waste (the pots and trays in blue).

Vincent Verbaeys, and, Elien Pieters and Rene De Hoed presenting their news series of ball-shaped chrysanthemums in small pot size (9-13cm); Souls Sisters. The series consists of 6 colors and have been introduced this year. According to Verbaeys, the demand is surpassing their expectations and the easy cultivation (no pinching needed and almost no PGR’s), the uniformity and the short cultivation period (10 weeks) are probably important reasons for the high demand. On top of that, with their POS material, which is optional, they try to attract the younger generation.

Unfortunately, on the second and third day of the FlowerTrials it was raining. However, it did not stop the visitors from checking out the varieties outside.

Pelargonium Toscane. Two years, Florensis, P. van der Haak Handelskwekerij and Ball FloraPlant took over the Pelargonium genetics of Geranien Endisch GmbH in Hagenbach (Germany). At Endisch’s new production location in Essingen, young plants will be produced for specific regions of Europe. The production of unrooted cuttings is now for the most part relocated to Florensis’s new production location in Ethiopia.

Inside the trial greenhouse of Anthura, both the Anthuriums and Phalaenopsis are on display.

Airthurium is a new concept that emphasizes on the air cleaning characteristic of the anthurium. “Anthuriums clear the air of toxic substances and even secrete substances, that eliminate moulds and viruses.”

Special about the Manta Maori phalaenopsis of Anthura is the lip that is almost similar to the flower leaf.

The FlowerTrials location of Sakata. At this location, also Van der Bos Flowerbulbs and Queen Genetics were presenting their varieties.

Also at this location, the nominees of the Fleuristar award presented. Begonia x hybrida Viking Red on Chocolate of Sakata Ornamentals was also competing.

The Kalanchoe Xenia of Queen Genetics. One cutting in a 7 cm pot and on the left 7 cuttings in a 21cm pot. It can also be well combined with other kalanchoe varieties.

At Green05, Brandkamp, Butterfly Garden and Varinova were presenting their varieties.

New in the Jollies are the Fuchsias with small flowers. “We already have a good assortment of big flowers and we are now expanding our assortment with these more compact, smaller and early flowering and good branching varieties.” Hubert Brandkamp says.

A few years ago, Brandkamp started with the breeding of pelargoniums, now, they have about 10 zonale varieties and 8 peltatum varieties. At this years FlowerTrials, they introduced three new varieties.

Even more recently; Brandkamp took over their neighboring company, a breeder and propagator of hydrangeas. And Hubert Brandkamp is pleased with their assortment and the demand so far. “We have the darkest blue hydrangea on the market.”

At Green05, Butterfly Garden was also presenting its varieties.

Joop van de Ven of Syngenta Flowers. Recently, this company took over Varinova. Therefore, they were also presenting their varieties at the site of Syngenta.

Jürgen von den Driesch and Jeroen de Kuijer of Brandkap presenting the new Tropic Lantana Varieties. Von den Driesch is the Tropic Lantana Dragonfruit (dark pink/creme) and Kuijer Tropic Lantana Pepper (red). In the pallet, on the left: the third novelty in this series; Tropic Lantana Pitaya (red/orange). “Pitaya and Pepper will replace Red Lory as these varieties grow much more unique, make more flowers and brighter flowers than Red Lory. Dragonfruit, is a completely new color in our range. The color is just like that of that fruit."

On top of that, it is continuous and long flowering – almost the first to start and the last to stop.”

Another novelty of Butterfly Garden is Jamesbrittenia "Ne:ON Heart”. Over the last 10 years, they have been working to improve this variety (improving rooting ability, uprightness, compactness and easy to grow) and are very happy to introduce this variety with bright red flowers. Next one coming in the series is a pink and more upright version named Flamingo (on the pillar in the back)

Pink summer improved of Butterfly Garden is a pink lavendula with a strong upright habit and quite large wings, says Henrik Romme. To really flash, it needs UV light.

Unfortunately, it was very rainy for two days. However, it did not stopped the visitors at the GGG Grünewald location to check out the varieties.

A new series of Lobelia of GGG Grünewald, consisting of 4 colors. “They stay compact and have bright colors”, says Nico Boers.

Nico Boers of GGG Grünewald presenting Purple Perfume Lavendula, a new concept in which a sachet is supplied. In this way, the consumer can have the scent of their own lavender in their homes.

GGG Grünewald is relatively new in pelargonium breednig. At the FlowerTrials 2016, they showed their first own bred pelargoniums. The series is know for early flowering, its medium compactness and homogeneous growth.

Inside, the cut chrysanthemums of Armada form a lovely sea of colors.

But also the pot varieties of Armada are shining.

A novelty of Armada is Pot Chrysanthemum Beauty Elegant Pink, a variety exclusively by Theo Nederpelt. “The bi-color is what makes it so unique.”

On the right: Tracheliu, Briba Green of Armada. “The biggest advantage of Briba Green is the transport quality and shelf life due to the absence of pollen and stamen. This unique feature is not present in other Trachelium colors. “

Ralph Koopman and Gerard Lentjes of Armada presenting cut chrysanthemum Anquetil, a variety that is performing well in both the heat and cold. Last year, they started with this variety in the Netherlands. In South Europe and Asia, it is increasing in popularity.”

At Nursery P. van Geest Maasland, Selecta one, DHMI and Schoneveld were presenting their varieities.

Also German pot and tray manufacturer Pöppellman Teku was present at this location, presenting their 100% recyclable plant pots made of 100% recycled plastic.

Bernadette Raulf of DHMI presenting their new yellow dipladenia Citrine 2.0. "When comparing this variety to the first version (on the left), it allows easier production under standard conditions - with better branching and higher vigor, has a larger flower size and a more golden yellow color."

Turmaline Pink is another variety of DHMI which has an upright growth (60-70 cm), does not climb and does not need support.

The Opale Orange Coral of DHMI. This half climbing variety with smaller flowers and a bright color (that changes over time) was introduced several years ago and is still attracting a lot of visitors.

The breeder protector ring of DHMI was introduced at the IPM 2019. Developed by D.H.M.I together with Lannes & Fils this ring has several purposes. "It has quite the same function as the labels: focusing on valuing up and identifying the product, in this case, Diamantina range, informing the consumer and by the way enabling observation of potential illegal propagation or eventual fraudulent activities. It proves also that the growers paid the license." The major difference to license labels is, that the Breeder Protector ring can’t start a life of its own after using it.

Also Visser was present at this location, presenting the AutoStix; a system to automate the process of the sticking of cuttings. It can stick up to 10,000 cuttings per hour. In the picture; Niels Vogelaar, Sebastiaan van den Heuvel and Cees de Geus.

Henk Dresselhuys of Selecta one presenting DiaDeur, one of the three marketing concepts that followed out of their successful Pink Kisses marketing concept. DiaDeur is a concept with scented Dianthus.

The other new concept is Early Love, a stand alone concept with one Dianthus variety.

And another standalone concept; Purple Wedding.

These three new concept are born out of the success of the Pink Kisses concept.

When paying a quick visit to the Decorum Summer Fair on June 12, during the FlowerTrials, we bumped into Mr. Plant Geek Micheal Perry. For the third year, he helped out with the FlowerTrials social media. "I have been updating their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts every day. It has been really fun to share my unique take on a range of different plants and products."

Entrance to the FlowerTrials location of MNP Flowers. At this location, also Roses Forever, Hishtil, Cohen, Jaldety, Padana and Hassinger Orchideen were presenting their products.

Erwin Giezen of MNP Flowers presenting Xerochrysum (Bracteantha/Helichrysum) Granvia Gold. Striking about this variety is the large flower (11cm) and the long flowering period (about May – Sept), explains Giezen. On top of that, the flowers have ‘cripsy paper like’ petals, a heart that turns orange as pollen appear when blooms get older and it can be used as dried flowers. This variety was one of the 6 nominies of the Fleurostar awards.

Another highlight at MNP was the Sundaville Fuchsia Pink, a variety of the Next Generation Collection. Fuchsia Pink has a similar earliness, vigour and flower size to other Sundaville varieties of the Classic collection.

Surdivia of MNP Flowers is a new Scaevola series consisting of 5 colors; Surdiva. These Scaevolas works well in hanging baskets, pots, beds and borders. The plants of these enhanced varieties are nicely compact, have very good branching and high flower power. Their habit is rather semi mounding in comparison to the ordinary more trailing Scaevola habit and they have an improved propagation rate. Plants of the new Surdiva generation have an extend flowering period lasting until late in the season, an excellent garden performance and are highly resistant to heat and rain, explains Giezen.

Rino Caccia of Padana presenting the begonia Sensy series, a line that comes out of their own selection. The line consists of 7 varieties (2 XL varieties, 2 chocolate leave and 2 green leave varieties). They are early, have a mounded habit and the red they have exclusive, explains Caccia.

Top-tunia is the own brand of Padana. It comes from own breeding and they have three types, the regular types with regular colors, the trialing varieties and the Special colors. Dark Velvet is new. On the left side is Neon Morn. These varieties are compact but exceed in a larger pot. In this 35 cm pot for example, only 3 plants are used, explains Caccia.

Sansone is a new line of interspecific pelargoniums. Also these pelargonium varieties come out of Padanas own selection and are according to Caccia very strong and resistant. They are proud to present a white variety as it is a difficult color in pelargoniums.

Jasmin Hassinger of Hassinger Orchideen presenting the Nui6, a new variety for 6,9,12cm pot. It is multifunctional, has big flowers that ‘look at you’, they branch well, is productive and healthy. So, the complete package, says Hassinger.

Another highlight at Hassinger’s booth is Macy1. It is a phalaenopsis for 12 cm pot with big flowers. Special about this variety is that the distance from the leaves to the flowers is shorter than usual. “Now, you can have a really short big flowering plant”, Jasmin Hassinger says.

Cocoon is another highlight of Hassinger. They introduced it at the IPM Essen and they are selling it to retailers and wholesalers for a couple of months now and according to Jasmin Hassinger, the demand is good. “It is also a trend to have a ‘Jungle’ at home. On top of that, it is easy to care of.”

All kind of orchid varieties are used in the Cocoon concept of Hassinger.

The Lavendula ang. BeeZee is a new lavendula of Hishtil. "It is a new hardy compact and exiting angustifolia series with similar characteristics and tons of flowers that will attract and keep bees busy during the long flowering season."

As you can see, Lavendula ang. BeeZee also works well in trios.

The new series of sweet potato of Hishtil. It combines the best of two worlds; ornamental foliage and good tasting an yielding tubers.

Jaldety was also presenting its varieties at the location of MNP Flowers.

Also Cohen was presenting its varieties at the MNP Flowers location, see the varieties in front. Towards the back; Jaldety and Hishtil.

For the second time this year, Roses Forever at MNP Flowers. In the picture breeder Rosa Eskelund with Dutch Rose grower Ad van Marrewijk of BM Roses. They are holding a box of new roses selected by Ad van Marrewijk to trial in his greenhouse. For several years, he grows the Roses Forever roses and Infinity roses of Roses Forever.

At MNP Flowers, also new varieties of Meilland are being trialed, see the roses in the back.

At Agriom, they have over 150 varieties over hydrangeas and in the years of breeding, they invested in creating a strong hydrangea with stems that do not need support and hydrangeas with a long shelf life. This picture shows how strong the stems are.

A development they are working on is creating a hydrangea that sets flowers without a cold period. The production period of these plants in the picture, for example, is 16 weeks instead of 16 months.

Besides pot plants, they are also working on breeding cut hydrangeas. In this part of the greenhouse, which they bought 2 years ago, they show the varieties to their growers.

Jaap Stelder of Agriom presenting the new Hydrangea Paniculata, a compact paniculata for patio and micro gardening. The series consists of two varieties; Pandora and Panflora. Every stem produces a flower.

At grower FN Kempen, Kientzler, DeCock, Allplants and Concept plants were presenting their varieties.

Jochem Hoffmann of Kientzler next to the Trio Mio Pocket (on the right). It is a new combination with new colors. The varieties have strong roots and not much PGR’s are needed.

Lily Rose of Kientzler flowers all summer long, is a perennial and this compact rose fits well in combinations.

Karel Hooijman of F.N. Kemper presenting a new concept; Rock Your Garden. The first plant in this concept is Chamaelobivia. This cactus is available in four colors and needs cold temperatrures to flower in spring. Next year, this concept will be rolled out and more varieties will be added.

Yummy of Plantipp is a Primocande raspberry and produces fruits the first year. On top of that, it is compact, does not have thorns and gives fruits all summer long.

Neptune Nepeta of Plantipp is an annualized perennial that is winter hardy. It does need cold to flower the first year, has large flowers, scented leaves and is attracts pollinators.

Osteospermum Gelato Cranberry van DeCock is one of their 17 own bred osteospermums of their Gelato series.

Benary is known for its begonias. Therefore it should come as no surprise many of the introductions could be found in this assortment. Among others some new colours were added to the 'Nonstop Family', which has been on the market since 1972.

Volmary puts a strong focus on its biological herb breeding & production. Except for breeding, Volmary also produces cuttings and even consumer ready plants, all and every step according to the principles of biological growing. Recently a cooperation with Multicraft was annouced, allowing the breeder to sell this growth enhancing fertilizer, while also applying it to their own crops.

At the facilities of Kebol, in Aalsmeer in The Netherlands, Volmary and Benary together put on quite a show again.

Next to new introductions to the Metalis and Tianis series, also in Helios again a few new varieties were added. Among others, we here see the 'litchi' (on the right) and the 'flame' (pink with white line, on the left)

Kees Eveleens, Horteve Breeding. In hortensia breeding the focus is mostly on three points: more compact growth, shelf live and budding.

The hortensia genetics of Horteve are, together with that of Kolster Breeding, sold as Magical Hortensia's.

Tuesday was a nice sunny day, the rest of the week we've had a lot of rain.

The gentlemen of Ramm Botanicals and Kalantzis, a Greek-Australian cooperation present at the FlowerTrials in Holland for the first time.

Among others, quite a few Anigozanthos varieties (also known as Kangaroo paws) were introduced.

As some of its competitors, PanAmerican Seed managed to develope new Impatiens varieties resistant to mildew.

All novelties at PanAmerican - we did not count them but there were many - were like statues places on golden pedestrals.

One of the absolute highlights at MNP was this new Xerochrysum, Granvia Gold. In the words of the breeder:"Gld, gold, and more gold."

Rosa Eskelund of Roses Forever (from Denmark), presented the assortment at MNP Flowers for the second time this year. Among others, novelties were added to Infinity Series.

As one would expect, Roses Forever brought out a broad assortiment potted roses.

Roses Forever dit not only presente its novelties, but also a range of not jet commercial varieties. Depending on the feed back, the breeder could decide where to put extra focus on.
