Lidy and Menno van der Straten of Succulents Unlimited. The company was established in 2018 and supplies unrooted cuttings of amongst others echeverias, crassulas, haworthias, and a large range of green plants. The cuttings are being produced in Kenya and being supplied all over the world.

Pieter Sluiter, Sandra Melo and Kenton Smith of Koen Pack presenting their concept of 2019; Homeloving. Every year, they create a new concept and introduce it in several parts of the world. According to Pieter, the US growers and retailers are interested in seeing the Dutch trends. “The trends in the Netherlands often arrive 2 or 3 years later in the US.”

Travis Marois and Debora Holt of Holt Nurseries. This wholesale that is baased in Apopka Florida supplies succulents and terrarium plants. Since 2014, they have seen the demand of these kind of these kind of plants increasing

As the bulbs of these Easter Lily will be ready earlier than usual, it enables growers to finish the Easter Lily in time of Easter. Zabo Plant sees the demand increasing, not only out of the US, but also out of other countries. The bulbs come from the Netherlands.

Masashi Matsumura, Junko Yamazaki and Koichi Tomomatsu of Suntory Flowers presenting Kawaii. At their booth, they present several series, including Kawaii (which means cute or pretty in Japanese). This series was launched about 3 years ago and red and white has been recently added. The white gained popularity very fast. “In just one year it has become the best seller.” And for every cutting they sell in this series, they donate 1 cent to the charity Scholarship Girls

Rachell Pruss of Flowers of Canada. According to her, the Canadian growers are doing well, growing every year.

Kristian Damsted and Norwin Alegria of Greenex presenting their addition; tropicals out of South America. This Danish company supplies them as rooted and unrooted cuttings all over the world

Seth Reed and Mason Day of GrowIt!. Currently, this app has a member group of 850,000 people. It took them some time to reach it, but they can now pull out actual insights from this group. These consumer information will benefit the industry, from breeder, grower to retailer. Next to insight it also enables them to forecast trends.

Karl Batschke of Darwin Perennials presenting the new digitalis Artic Fox Rose. According to Karl, the fact that it is more winter hardy than the traditional hybrid types. “Most are hardy till zone 7-8 and this till zone 5.” On top of that, it is very easy to flower and pushes a lot of flowers, he says.

Asaf Cohen of Cohen Nurseries was sharing a booth with the other Israeli young plant producer Hishtil.

Karen Vogelsang of IPM was promoting the different shows that they organize all over the world. The next show will be the one in Mexico City in September, which they will be organizing for the first time.

Nico Rijnbeek and Olga Stärz with Rijnbeek and Son presenting not only their new varieties like Crocosmia Orange Pekoe and Achillia Crazy Little Thing, but also their new company image.

April Herring, Richard Gigot and Jen Miner with Pacific Plug and Liner. A highlight at their booth was the Echinacea. They are known for this product in the industry. According to Miner, it is a great summer/fall item. During the show, it was up for the medal of Excellence.

Nik Wagner and Elizabeth Hultgren. According to Wagner, it has been quite a good year, more or less similar to last year. Now, they are preparing for the fall season a. They supply the pansies and according to Wagner, almost whole Southern USA does pansies for fall.

The team of Griffin Greenhouses at the booth of Syngenta. At the syngenta booth, Imara XDR took center stage. XDR stands for Extreme Disease Resistance. This new impatiens series is available in 9 colors and 1 mix. Red Star and Pink are the newest additions in the series. It is their biggest introduction in these trials as it is resistant to Impatiens Downy Mildew. On top of that, it is a shade plant and according to Willis, retail is always looking for shade plants. In North America, they also provide POS material for this series with the slogan: “Take back the shade”

Eyal Inbar of Hisbtil. At the show, this Israeli young plant grower and Dummen Orange announced that they wiljoin forces for Basewell promotion.

Paul and Reginald Deroose with Deroose Plants & Exotic Plant presenting more than the bromeliads they are known for, like the monstera minima deliciosa. According to Deroose it is a very old plant that has gained back popularity all over the world.

Dan McEnany, Terri McEnany and Nick Stevens with Bailey Nurseries presenting the Summer Crush (named Summer Love in Europe). This hydrangea was introduced at the CAST 2018. It is added to the Endless Summer collection, has raspberry red mopheads and is more compact (w:18xh:36). So far, the demand is good, says Terri.

Kerry Meyer and Nelson Darden with Proven Winners presenting the Caladiums series that will be new to the Proven Winners line in 2020. The varieties were developed by Classic Caladiums, one of the leading worldwide breeders and suppliers of Caladiums. They have joined the Proven Winners team recently and supply several of their varieties through their brand. They are very happy with this new addition because tropicals continue to trend strongly in the market and 'the industry is always looking for shade plants'. "On top of that, the striking leaf colors, shapes, increased disease resistance and sun tolerance, and season-long color make the Caladiums stand out."

Proven Winners also introduced the self watering pots AquaPots by Proven Winners. The pots are designed by designer Michael Carr and are high cold tolerant. In the picture are just a few of the wide range.

Robert Ford of Heliospectra was also visiting the show.

Robin van der Schaaf of Flamingo Holland. According to van der Schaaf, the pot market increases and they see the demand for their calla lilies increasing as well. Van der Schaaf is pleased that they entered this market about 10 years ago.

Alicia Suits and Jana Escobar of Sakata presenting Supercal and SupercalPremium. Currently, there are 6 varieties in the Supercal series and 5 in the Supercal Premium series. They aim for 7 varieties in both series. According to Suits, the Supercal showed a lot of credibility for integrity as the blooms stayed open during their trial of 24 hour of continuous rains at the CAST.

Joan Mazat and Kelsey Fletcher of Ball Ingenuity – for the first time with a booth - behind their new double flowering hydrangeas of Hydrangea Breeders Association. These are gift plants for indoor use and according to Mazat, the popularity of hydrangeas is increasing and everyone is therefore interested in something new. “It is a new level of what is currently popular. Most retailers want pink and blues, but with the double petal flowers, we take it to a higher heights.”

Alexander Hoogenwerkf with Dymak. Most of this Danish company is focussed on adding value to plants with decorative pots. Most of their products are customn made “We cooperate with Christine Boland to create new trends.” Together with the growers and/or retailers they create the pots. Sustainability is a popular develoment in Europe, but now, they also see it coming in the USA. Also Dymak taps into this develompent by, for example, developing bamboo pots or pots made out of old tires.

Eric Pitzen of Selecta One presenting the Dahlia Venti Passion Fruit of the new Dahlia Venti Series that was introduced at the CAST earlier this year “It is a uniform vigorous sereis of double-flowered dahlias.”

Ben and Antoinette Langeveld with Netherland Bulb Company. For nearly 40 years, they supply the US market with bulbs and perennials from the Netherlands.

Remco Jansen, Charlotte Smit and Arthij Vermeer of MPS. Next year, they will celebrate their 25th anniversary. At the show, they handed out the MPS-GAP Certification that was achieved by Ball FloraPlant Las Limas Farm.

The team of Orlandelli. This Italian company is on the USA market for about 7 years now and has its own warehouse and office in Jacksonville. Their best sellers are display solutions for flowers and plants for garden ceters.

Kees van Beek of Modiform holding a tray, named the Cool Gray Tray, made out of recycled plastic from the inside of fridges. It is a new and innovative way to reuse the plastic and it does need any additives to produce. On top of that, it is detectable in order to recycle it again. Several growers in Europe will start using it. Nex “And as you see, the light gray color matches well with bright colors of a pot.” Next year, this Dutch pot and container manufacturer will celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Jodi Munoz and Dan Bradbury of Walters Garden next to the Sedum Rock ‘N Grow ‘Boogie Woogie’ is a sedum variety with variegated leaves. "It has a nice mounded habit and can be used in landscapes and in combos." It has been launched recently, butis already one of their top sellers.

For the third year, Chrysal is exhibiting Cultivate. This year, they again promoted the Alesco , a post-harvest treatment for plants that are sensitive to ethylene that they launched at CAST 2018. Kevin Cramer of Van Belle Nurseries holding one of the three exclusive varieties for 2020 in to the Bloomin’ Easy assortment, available to wholesale growers as young plants starting next spring. The name of this variety is: Thunderbolt Box Honeysuckle, a variety that features dense chartreuse foliage that can be hedged or left naturally cascading in its compact form. The other two are Afterglow Weigela and Pinky Promise Snowberry.

Avantikka Raghunandan and her father with Green Earth Impex presenting several products made out of coconuts, including the coconut that is being used as a pot. The roots enter the coconut, increasing the quality of the plant. It is suitable for Anthurium, orchids as well as tulips. They are concentrating on preserving the earth and promote the use of coconut products instead of peat.

Leah Haugh with Star Roses and Plants. The entire booth was promoting their new brand Bloom-ables, a brand that contains all kind of plants that bloom. The varieties are now available for growers and in spring 2020 for the retail consumer.

Michael Shilling with Decowraps presenting three of their more sustainable packaging solutions. From their Colombian factory, they are already manufacturing one of these packaging products for a chain in the US. The films presented are – sugar cane based, corn based and one made out of paper that is sourced from mils who replant trees back, against deforestation.

The team of Bumnong presenting one of their new trays; the 5x12 silver tray which increases photosyntheses. On top of that, as it bounces back the light it is cooler in summer and warmer in winter when it absorbs the ligth.

The new introduction are the double-flowered hydrangeas. The dormant plants are grown by Aldershot greenhouses and exclusively supplied to Ball Ingenuity, in the US.
