Cut flower exports earned the country nearly Sh4 billion more in 2014 despite a harsh fourth quarter, during which Kenyan businesses had to pay taxes in the EU due to lack of a trade pact.
Earnings from flower exports grew to Sh59.89 billion in the 12 months, a seven per cent increase over the Sh55.98 billion earned in 2013, according to data supplied by the Horticultural Directorate to KNBS.
From October 1 through to December 24, Kenyan exports to the 27-country European Union bloc attracted duties of between five per cent and 22 per cent. The trade bloc is Kenya's largest market for fresh produce.
