"Netherlands: "The most beautiful spring garden in the world"Holland's Keukenhof"

This spring seems to have taken longer than usual to warm its way into our still-shivering psyches, so you really deserve a glorious April and May. And there’s still time — until May 17 — to travel to what’s acknowledged as the best place on earth to celebrate the awakening season of daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips: Keukenhof gardens.

Lisse, the small-town site of the gardens, is less than an hour’s drive or train ride from Amsterdam, and there’s even a dedicated bus direct from Schipol airport. Along the way to Keukenhof you’ll pass fields of candy-colored tulips, windmills, tidy villages, and bike paths along the dikes —an iconic Holland panorama.

Strolling among Keukenhof ‘s seven-million blooming bulbs, its swan-filled waterways and flowering trees, makes for a perfect day trip. At the greenhouse you can buy rare bulbs. Children will enjoy the windmill, petting zoo and playgrounds. And you can walk over to adjacent Keukenhof castle, a grand, historic Dutch manor built in 1641.
