Asocolflores, the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters, has announced its "Propagation Rooting Beds" initiative – a native tree planting project that merges environmental stewardship with social impact and strategic alliances.
In April 2025, Flowers of Colombia hosted a significant tree-planting event in Facatativá, a key floriculture region near Bogotá. This action brought together more than 250 people, including local communities, students, public officials, the Colombian Army, and allied companies, resulting in the planting of 2,000 native trees out of a total of 4,100 donated. This is part of a broader reforestation effort that will restore 7.5 hectares of high Andean forest, supporting carbon capture, biodiversity, and water regulation.
"The Colombian floriculture sector's commitment goes far beyond greenhouse walls," stated Daniela España, Director of Sustainability and Environmental Affairs at Asocolflores. "This initiative reflects how environmental restoration, social inclusion, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can create lasting impact in flower-growing territories."
Since 2022, this project has engaged over a dozen municipalities across the Bogotá savanna – including Cajicá, Cota, Chía, Facatativá, Funza, Fusagasugá, Madrid, Nemocón, Tocancipá, Sesquilé, and Sopó. Local communities help select species and planting sites, and they remain involved in long-term monitoring, creating ownership and shared value. Partnerships include municipal governments, grassroots organizations, schools, and private companies – demonstrating true public-private cooperation.
