Ecuador considering cooperation with other EEU members via Belarus

Ecuador is considering the possibility of reaching other Eurasian Economic Union member states via Belarus. The statement was made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to Belarus Carlos Humberto Larrea Davila in an interview with the Belaruskaya Dumka magazine, BelTA has learned.

“It is a very important integration association. We hope that your country will open the doors for us to reach markets of other EEU member states. In turn, Belarus will be able to use Ecuador's presidency in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in 2015,” said the diplomat.

Speaking about Belarus-Ecuador trade, Carlos Humberto Larrea Davila mentioned that progress was noticeable although the trade volume is small in absolute terms for now. “Nevertheless, the rapid growth that has been observed for the last few years is important. The choice of mutually traded commodities is expanding, too. For instance, Belarus exports 38 kinds of merchandise to Ecuador. Ecuador's exports to Belarus include fruits, flowers, vegetable extracts. Unfortunately, for now trade is often routed via third countries. We would like Belarus to become the hub that will pass Ecuadorian products to EEU member states. This aspect of logistics is very important because it is the basis of prices and respectively the competitive ability of the merchandise,” he said.
