US: Border officials warn about crossing flowers, plants for Mother's Day

As Mother's Day approaches, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are reminding the public that officers will be inspecting all flowers and plants for pests.

CBP agriculture specialists will be inspecting all plants at El Paso and other area ports of entry, officials said.

"While a relatively small number of harmful pests are found among the millions of stems inspected by CBP, a single dangerous pest could cause millions of dollars of damage to our nation's crops," officials said.
